Whispers from Life: Head Down, Private Thoughts
It was a beautiful morning with the sky turning blue, birds chirping, the wind rustling gently through the trees. I was, as usual, on a brisk walk around the periphery of our apartment complex, head down, eyes fixed on the walking track, paying no attention to the world around me.
I was jolted back to my senses when I nearly collided with another resident who was also, incidentally, walking with his head down.
And I wondered: Why do we do this, walk with our head down, especially when we’re walking alone?
Thoughts rushed in, like water finding a hollow.
Maybe it’s because we dream better with our eyes open. Maybe it’s a way to live in the quiet company of fantasies we don’t want to share with others. Or perhaps it’s simply wanting to be with oneself.
The moment I look up, my field of view expands. The sky, the buildings, the people, the trees — they flood in. It distracts me. My daydreams dissolve. The happy little world I had slipped into vanishes, and real life takes over.
But there is comfort in being with yourself, letting a stream of random thoughts flow, unbothered by the world. A quiet corner within me, where no one interrupts.
So, I walk with my head down again — back into my private little world, undisturbed.
Just reflecting…

Lovely piece of writing Sri!! Yes, it’s time to ponder about why we do things the way we do them!! 👌👌
