Nestled in the bosom of a cloud,
Was a droplet thinking aloud,
“I wish I stay here forever more,
out in the open what’s there in store”?
“Fall and vanish in a mire,
or vapourize when I drop on fire.”
“Oh! Lord on you I have belief,
But will I sparkle on a lotus leaf”?
A whiff of wind and the drop just flew,
Fate took it to the sea so blue.
An oyster came up with the ocean swell,
Embraced the drop in its warm shell.
Unknown, the cards, that fate will play,
Gloomy we leave our homes one day.
With worries and fears, we do drown,
When one may be destined for the golden crown.
Live life to its fullest, that one must,
On life’s blessings place one’s trust.
My life’s story may just unfurl,
like the drop which turned into a lovely pearl.

Inspired by the poem – Ek Boond by Shri Ayodhya Singh Upadhyaya, I wrote this poem on 19th October 2005 after retiring from the Army. It actually depicted the state of mind I was in, having left the safety of Army life into the civvy street.
